L’aggravarsi della guerra civile in Siria, la restaurazione autoritaria in Egitto, la tensione politica in Tunisia, la destabilizzazione del Libano, il caos perpetuo in Irak e Libia, l’irrigidirsi dell’autoritarismo di Erdoğan in Turchia, lo spettro della ripresa di un conflitto armato in Afghanistan – ammesso che si sia mai interrotto – facilitano scontati giochi di parole su l’«Autunno» o l’«Inverno» arabo e una ben triste antifona: «ve l’avevamo detto (che i musulmani erano inadatti alla democrazia)!

The worsening civil war in Syria, the authoritarian restoration in Egypt, the political tension in Tunisia, the destabilization of Lebanon, the perpetuation of chaos in Iraq and Libya, the increasingly authoritarian posture of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Turkey, the spectre of a resumption of armed conflict in Afghanistan – if indeed that conflict has ever ended – can give rise to facile puns on the ‘Arab Autumn’ or the ‘Arab Winter’, and the crocodile tears and malign glee that go with the refrain ‘We told you so (we told you that Muslims were unfit for democracy)!’

L’aggravation de la guerre civile en Syrie, la restauration autoritaire en Egypte, la tension politique en Tunisie, la déstabilisation du Liban, la perpétuation du chaos en Irak et en Libye, le raidissement autoritaire de Recep Tayyip Erdoğan en Turquie, le spectre d’une reprise du conflit armé en Afghanistan – si tant est que celui-ci ait jamais été interrompu – provoquent des jeux de mots faciles sur l’ « Automne » ou l’ « Hiver arabe », et des larmes de crocodile, une joie mauvaise, sur l’antienne du « On vous l’avait bien dit (que les musulmans étaient inaptes à la démocratie) ! »
